SNACK, SNACK AND MORE SNACK! Our bucket is almost empty. Please send a snack for the class whenever possible.

If you look on the right side of the blog you will notice there is a place to "follow by email". Please enter your email address and you will recieve and email when I update the blog!

We have enjoyed getting back into the swing of things here in first grade! This week we have started a new unit in Math. It is quite different than our units in the past, we are learning how to measure. We have talked about and practiced measuring with a foot, an inch and a tape measure. We have worked really hard at marking our spot and moving our measuring device to keep measuring longer objects. This pairs up nicely with jumping on our number line as well. :) This is a nice change of pace for us. It gives the kiddos a little break from counting all that money. I hope you are still practicing that at home though!

We continue to make great progress in Reading. We do Guided Reading everyday and I meet with four groups each day. It is awesome to sit and listen to each student read so often. I target my instruction based on their reading needs. Please keep up the great work with Book-It and the book bags that come home with a lot of your kids. Today is December 1st, so a new Book-It calendar will be coming home. Please send back the November one ASAP. (Remember our goal is to read 400 minutes, or 20 minutes each day we have school for all 6 months. By doing this students earn a pizza party!)

**Learning Kitchen** Last spring KE was awarded a grant that made it possible for us to have a learning kitchen to use for our classrooms. So far this year we have used it several times and the kids love when we do! We talk about reading and following directions, different math concepts and taking turns. It is so great to tie in cooking with learning! When we use the Learning Kitchen we usually end up needing items such as plates, napkins and silverware to enjoy our creations. Anytime you are able to send some of those donations our way we greatly appreciate it. (We have a marble jar in our class that we use to encourage positive behavior during school. Our jar is almost full and I have heard some talk from the students that they think it would be fun to have a pizza party...making their own pizzas! I will keep you posted! :)

**Field Trip** On Tuesday, December 13 all first grade students will be loading up and heading to the Herbert Hoover Museum in West Branch. We will be at school in the morning , will eat lunch and then load the bus. The theme at the Museum this year is "Fairy Tales," and we are sure the kiddos will have a blast. We will be there for an hour and will head back to school in plenty of time for the Early Bus, Mini Bus and regular bus routes.

In your child's Friday Folder there will be a permission slip for our Skating Party. As a staff we are taking the kids to Wellman to go skating for 2 hours. Please fill out this paper and return it ASAP.

Also please return Grandparent's Day forms ASAP. We are trying to get a count for how many chairs we will need.

Enjoy your weekend!
