We are ready for another fun filled week in first grade!  Check out some photo's below of our Fall Fitness Day and our Friday Math workday with our friends in Mrs. O'Rourke's room.

Book-It: Keep up the great work reading with your child each night. Remember their goal is to read for 20 minutes every night. This can be you reading to them, them reading to you or involving older/younger siblings.  Reading is incredibly important at home as well as at school. Again, thank you for all the hard work you are doing at home with your kiddo.

Jolly Phonics: We are nearing the end of our JP review. At the beginning of the second quarter we will begin Jolly Grammar. Be looking for spelling lists to start coming home the first week of November.  Once your child is done with all of the writing lists you can keep their notebooks at home. We are asking for tricky word bags to continue to come back to school during the week. We use these bags during our review time and Literacy Centers. I talked with lot of you at parent teacher conferences about how writing the tricky words or fry sight words can be very beneficial for you child. Using his/her writing notebook is a great way to practice those words. Keep up the routine of writing 10 words a night once homework stops by writing some of those sight words.

Science: We have spent the last few weeks investigating weather. We are keeping an October weather calendar and recording the weather and temperature each day. At the end of the month we will tally the weather patterns and find the average temperature for the month.  With weather goes thermometers so we are also testing water temperatures, inside temps and outside temps. The kiddos have had fun comparing the temperatures and working with real thermometers.

Math: We are flying through out Math series. Be watching for Unit 2 test to come home in Friday folders this week.  Several weeks ago your child brought home a bright green piece of paper with their login and password information for our Math website. Feel free to login as often as you can to allow your child some extra math practice. They love when we play some of these games in the classroom. If you have misplaced the login information (as I misplace things ALL the time) just let me know and I can get you that information. Looking ahead into Unit 3 we will be talking a lot about patterns, counting by 2's, 5's and 10's, adding and subtracting.
