Just a reminder every Wednesday is workout Wednesday at Kalona Elementary!  We spend extra time throughout the day exercising and dancing for Live Healthy Iowa. I am keeping track of all the at school minutes fruits, veggies, etc. You only need to report what your child eats and how much he/she exercises at home each day/night.

With so many snow days it has been dificult to keep up on our Monday-Wednesday-Friday schedule fo the book cart. Please help your child remember to bring their book with them to school on those days. We will exchange on those days (assuming we are at school).  After listening to your child read I encourage you to ask them questions such as: Who were the characters in the story? Was there a problem in the story, what was it? How did the characters solve the problem? What are some of the main events or details from the story? What part did you like best and why?  Asking and answering these questions will help strengthen your child's comprehension skills and make it easier for them to answer those questions here at school. I have talked with each of my guided reading groups about how they get better at swimming, baseball, dance, soccer, wrestling?  PRACTICE and it is the same for reading, we have to practice reading both at home and at school and we need to PRACTICE asking/answering questions about stories both at home and at school. Keep up the great work that you are doing with your child!
