I apologize for not updating the blog last week. I was out sick on Friday. We are having so much fun here at KE! Each day the kiddos walk in with smiles on their faces and ready for a new adventure.

In Math we have been working on counting on our number lines and hundred charts. Yesterday we started something new and I must say they loved it! It is called complements of 10. They are basic addition facts to 10. However, in first grade we must make it much more exciting than that! :) We say that the numbers are best friends with each other and must always stay together. For example, 7 and 3 are best friends because no matter who comes first together they still make 10. Their eyes were just lighting up as we talked about numbers as if they were real people! :) I love being a first grade teacher!

I am happy to say I have completed our Fall Reading assessments and yesterday was our first real day of Literacy Centers. This is the first year I have had to make 6 rotations of centers! With so many kids on so many different levels it is what needed to be done to get the proper instruction for each child. I am still working final details out on the schedule but it looks like I will meet with most groups 4 times a week and 3 times a week for 2 of my groups. When I am not meeting with groups they are reading with partners or independently, writing, or playing sight word games to help with sight word recognition. Reading and Writing and major chunks out of our day and I believe them to be the most beneficial and the most fun!
