Reach for the Stars update: as of this morning our classroom has read 14, 000 minutes!!! WOW! This number is based off of the students who bring their calendars in each day. I can only record minutes if your child brings in their calendar. During Math we record how many minutes we read the day before and add those minutes to the minutes they read at home. We then go to our Smartboard and add them all together. Our class goal is to read 18,000 minutes by the end! Do you think we will make it??? Please help your child set aside some time each night to read and record it on both the Book-It calendar and the Reach for the Stars calendar. Just a reminder calendars should be brought to school each day to help keep a running tally of how many minutes we have read.

January 26 we will close this awesome reading program with a book fair and a chili supper. The book fair will be open from 4:30-8:00 and the chili supper is from 5:00-7:30.

Report cards will be coming home on Jan. 23.

We are still collecting items for our Fun Night Basket. Our theme is a Holiday Basket. Any holiday related items are greatly appreciated. This basket will be auctioned off on Fun Night. All proceeds that are made on that night go to the KE Boosters to use for KE!

Thank you for sending snack items our way. It is hard for anyone to concentrate on the task at hand if their stomachs are empty and growling!

Students are continuing to work hard during reading, writing, math, social studies and science. We have just finished up our Pen Pal letters. I will be getting them to Ms. Beeler at Linn Mar this week. Writing back and forth to other first graders has been a lot of fun. The kiddos have put in a lot of time and effort to make their letters the best they can be.

In Math we are working a lot with adding numebrs together. Simple addition facts to sums of 12 or 14 should be becoming easier and easier each day for your child. It is nice to take a break away from money and telling time but don't worry we will find our way back there very soon! It NEVER hurts to continue having your child count coins or telling time while at home. Even though that is not the "big idea" right now we still review it each day and you can do the same at home.
