Last week we read a lot of books about apples and Johnny Appleseed.  To start our week off we had a taste test to see which color of apples we like best. Each student tasted one apple slice of yellow, green and red apples.  Next we made a graph using tally marks to decide which flavor we liked best as a class.  While doing that we also colored in a graph based on which color each student liked.  In the end we discovered that our class prefers green apples more than yellow or red.  We also discussed how the different colored apples were similar and different in their taste, size and color.

Later in the week we began to talk about Johnny Appleseed and the life he lived.  Students learned interesting facts about his life such as: he was friends with all kinds of animals including bears, he walked around barefoot and was bitten by a rattlesnake and planted apple seeds every where he went.
For a snack we made apple smiles using peanut butter, marshmallows and apple slices. The kiddos had a great time making their very own snacks.

In Math we are beginning to tell time and count coins. Any time telling on the hour you can do at home will greatly help your son or daughter to become more confident in their work here at school. So far pennies and nickels is all the further we have gotten with money. By the end of this week students should be able to count pennies, nickels and pennies and nickels together.  This is quite the task for one week, but I assure you we will review these concepts all year long.  Again, any work you can do at home to help review these concepts is awesome!
