Brrr! It is chilly outside! Please help to make sure you child has a jacket/coat to wear to school everyday. It is very cold in the mornings for first recess and so far this week it has not warmed up much for our afternoon recess either.  The kiddos play hard outside but still come in with red cheeks and cold hands.

Last week first graders had a blast dressing up for Homecoming week.  I tried to remember to take pictures each day but we were so busy I forgot on some of the days. Friday was extra exciting because we had a pep rally and had the opportunity to listen to some high school athletes talk to us about their sports. We had football players, cross country runners and volleyball players. They told us about their seasons and what they like about their sport. Thank you to all the athletes who took the time to come visit us, the kiddos loved it!

Jolly Phonics: We are nearing the end of learning our sounds. Thank you so much for all the work you do with your child at home each night.  Please continue to do this. All of the students need to know all of the sounds.  New things to come: sound tubs will start coming home tomorrow (hopefully). Sound tubs will work similar to sound books. Inside the tubs/bags there are word cards. Go through each word with your child at night. These are all words that your son/daughter can sound out.  Also coming home soon will be word lists. Words lists are going to be just like a spelling list only there will not be a test that goes along with it.  Each night your child will bring home a list and we are asking that you help them to write each word one time. It will work best for you to say the word and your child to write it. I would like them to write their words on the back of a sound page in their sound book. We will start back at the beginning where /s/ is glued and on the back of that page there will be a line. That line separates the page so you can use it two nights in a row, the top half the first night and the bottom half the second night.  The sound tubs and words lists are our next steps in helping the kiddos become better readers. They all know the sounds now we need to start putting them together to say words and taking them apart to write words. Thank you for all of the continued support you give this program!
