We are off to a great start in 1S! Today we wrap up our first week of first grade! Thank you for helping make sure your child is ready for school each day.  We have already accomplished so much in such a short amount of time.

As you have noticed your child is bringing home a Jolly Phonics sound book with 3 sounds each night. We are choosing to move at such a fast pace because your son/daughter have already learned these sounds in Kindergarten. However, we feel it is important to review and make sure we all have a solid understanding of each sound and exactly how Jolly Phonics works. Before you know it we will be starting Jolly Grammar.  If at any time you are confused or need clarification on what is happening send me an email or a note with your child!!!  I am here to help you and the kiddos! :-)

In Math we have been investigating the number line and playing a fun game called Monster Squeeze. The game is available on the ipad and the computer.  In the coming weeks you will receive a parent letter with information in regards to our Math series. With that letter you will also receive a student log-in for your child to access the games we play at school, at home.  This is a great resource for kids, parents and teachers to all stay on the same page and to make learning FUN!  Stay tuned for more information on this.

This week was all about getting to know one another. We played a lot of games with different partners, met almost all of our specials teachers, support staff and of course our new principal Mrs. Beenblossom!  It will take a few weeks before we master our daily routines and expectations. We will work on these each day and remind each other as needed.
