Happy Monday to all! I would like to take the time to talk about your child's report card. Tomorrow your child will be bringing home their first, first grade report card. Typically I have the opportunity to chat with parents about report cards at Parent-Teacher Conferences but because they were early this year I do not have the chance to do that. Your child's repot card is going to look a little different compared to what you saw in Kindergarten. Our grading scale is O- Outstanding, S- Satisfactory, I- Inconsistent and NI- Needs Improvement. So much of what we do in the first quarter is building routines, procedures and introducing key ideas and concepts. Seeing an "I" in some areas is appropriate for this time of year. We all learn at our own pace and will improve as the year goes on and our main goal is that by the end of first grade everyone is receiving an "S" grade. If you see inconsistent in some areas for quarter one it does not mean your child cannot do the task or never will be able to, it means that sometimes they do it and sometimes they do not. We all have room for improvement and that is what school is all about. :-) In the areas of Math, Language Arts, Science and Social Studies you will also see an achievement grade. 4- below grade level, 3- ON grade level, 2- above grade level, and 1- well above grade level. If you ever have questions or are confused about the report cards please do not hesitate to send me an email or give me a call at the school.
