Ms. Stumpf First Grade Class

Happy Friday to all! I hope you are all staying warm this week! It doesn't sound like next week is going to get any warmer! :-(

We have several new things quickly approaching!  Notes have been coming home about these new things but here is a quick overview.

  • Live Healthy Iowa: It is that time of year again. M-P will be participating in this challenge.  Notes will be coming home about this today in your child's Friday folder.  We will send home a recording sheet each night with your child.  Please record the amount of minutes your child was physically active and the amount of servings for the weeks given food. This first week (maybe two weeks, I cannot remember) we are recording fruits. I will keep track of the time we put in here at school and the fruits we consume at school. I will keep a running total of all our minutes and healthy food servings.  If you have any questions once we get started do not hesitate to send me a note or an email.

  • Day 100: We sent a note home about Day 100 earlier this week. Tuesday, January 28 is Day 100. Both first grade sections will be celebrating together. We are asking each child to bring an individual snack of 100 pieces of something. We will add all 100 pieces together to make a very unique trail mix.  We also asked for 100 18oz. plastic drinking cups to use for an activity for each classroom. If you are willing to send cups please send me an email or a note so I can track how many we still need.

Germs: We have been talking a lot about germs in our classroom and the importance of washing our hands with soap and water. Several kids are putting their hands in their mouths and forgetting to wash. We are all working together to make this a better situation.  If your child comes home and says Ms. Stumpf made me wash my hands a lot today there is probably truth to that! :-)  We have had some yucky colds and flu going around so we are working together to keep everyone healthy!

Fry Words Writing Homework: Last Monday I started sending 10 Fry Sight Words home with kids for some practice.  There is a small sheet of paper in each baggie for your child to write the words on two times. Please feel free to keep those at home for a few nights if needed. I would like them to come back at least on the third day. I do not have enough baggies for every child to get one, we rotate so it is helpful if we can keep them coming back on somewhat of a regular basis.  As always if you have any questions in regards to this please let me know!

Snack: Our snack bucket is getting low. Please remember we are a peanut free classroom. If you are willing to send snack we greatly appreciate it. On 2 hour delay days I do not serve a morning snack and the kids do not think that is fair!! ;-)  They love snack time!  We usually use a napkin at snack time however we are currently out of them. If you have napkins that you can send our way it would also be greatly appreciated!

I hope you all have a safe and warm weekend!
